Who we are

Save A Mother (SAM) is an NGO that has spreads health literacy through social behavior change communication (SBCC) in India. SAM is driven by a mission to develop healthcare solutions for the poor.

Since 2008, the NGO has worked with over 2 million people in over 1000 villages. This population provides a platform to innovate and validate models for healthcare solutions with the participation of communities. The solutions are flexible and modular for each problem to facilitate adoption by other communities. The design is kept simple, sustainable and scalable with speed.


Dr. Ganju’s life work has been dedicated to healthcare. Over a distinguished 45 year career he has contributed at multiple levels: as a physician, as the founder of the ’Save a Mother (SAM)’ foundation focused on developing sustainable healthcare solution, as a leader & innovator in healthcare firms, as a participant in advocacy with policy makers, as an advisor to foundations and think tanks of healthcare.

Dr. Ganju graduated from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India and received advanced training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology both in India and the USA. He is a consultant specializing in gastroenterology, liver disease and nutrition in hospitals in the greater Chicago area. His commitment to and understanding of how to drive improvements in health outcomes has been nurtured & honed since 1972-73 when he worked in a slum near Delhi and where he helped build a school and dispensary.
